Situated in the Sariyer, district of Istanbul, Emirgan Park covers the area of 47.2 hectare which is surrogated high walls. Previously named as ‘’Feridun Gardens,’’ that area was called Emirgan Park anymore. Because the park was given by Ottoman Emperor Murat IV as a present to Persian Emir Gune Han (Ameer Gune Khan) in 17th century. Then it was presented by Ottoman Sultan Abdulaziz to Khedive of Egypt Ismail Pasha in 19th century. As it is seen that for centuries, it has passed into other people’s hands.

 

Once you step into that magnificent park, you feel yourself in metaphysical world due to breathtaking scenery combining with the seaside; don’t be shocked if you encounter a friendly siquirrel with a nut in its hands. They climb the trees and play with the visitors. Today, it is possible to find quiet places, to watch its charming landscape towards Bosphorus, to lie down and take a sunbath and to read a book on the grass within the park.

 

Also sometimes people can have a picnic here; you should take a sandwich and a cup tea when you come to the fascinating park. If you want to run, you can do it by watching the sea and by listening the voices of the chirpy birds. Except for those features, there are located three excellent Pavilions; they are Yellow, Pink and White Pavilions.

 

Yellow Pavilion

Established by the Khedive Ismail Pasha as a guest home and hunting mansion between 1871 and 1878, the Yellow Pavilion is located in the center of the park. That huge wooden structure looks like the house of birds in order to reflect artistically the love of birds in Turkish people.

 

On the upper floor, it is found three rooms with a hall and on the lower floor contains four rooms with a kitchen, saloon and basement. It was used the yellow colour with white motifs to remind a birdhouse in dreamy yellow pavilion. Including most elegant features of decorative art, that mansion was ornamented with flowers motives, oil-paint figures, traditional wood carvings and handcrafts. Because the woodworking provides a warmer atmosphere upon the architectural structures in Ottoman Period, it is seen that apple, walnut, plane, lime, ebony, rose and oak tree materials were used here and the other two pavilions.

 

There is located a little pool on the hill. Tiny water falls attracts your view to the wide lake and cataract cave behind it. Used for resting, hunting, hosting guest many years ago, the Yellow Pavilion was also runned by Turing as a restaurant and cafeteria, but later given to Municipality of Metropol Istanbul.

 

Pink Pavilion

Portraying the traditional two-floor Ottoman house with wooden covered walls, painted in sardine pink color the Pembe Kosk or Pink Pavilion is one of three pavilions in park. It consists of three entrances; protocol, front and personnel entrance. At the first entrance there are a large hall and two rooms opening into this refreshing hall. The second entrance, protocol entrance connected a secret room. The first floor hosts a bathroom and a kitchen, while a big hall, two big rooms and also another five big rooms past the aisles and two small case rooms are located in the second floor. Now it serves as a restaurant and cafeteria and organizes wedding ceremonies or other events.

 

White Pavilion

White Pavilion, one of the third pavilion in the Emirgan park was established by Khedive Ismail Pasha. It is found in a 150 meters distance from Yellow Mansion. That two-floor structure reflects the artictical characteristics of the neo-classical style.

 

Tulips Of Emirgan Park

Emirgan Park includes approximately ninety species of tree and three thousand varieties tulips. Absolutely most remarkable feature of park is fascinating tulips. There are found many different kind of tulips and they create a dreamy atmosphere with the harmony. Every year, there is regulated an organization about tulips and many tourists from different countries come that place to see them when the tulips grow up. Furthermore it is named Tulip Festival or Tulip Time.
