Overview
Altinkum is an attractive resort situated on the western coast of Turkey. Altinkum is frequented by holidaymakers not only for the deep blue waters of the Aegean Sea, but also for its rich history and culture. There is a lot to do in Altinkum, or, if you like, you can do nothing at all; just laze around the pool or on the beach.
Altinkum Beach
For beach holiday enthusiasts there is a choice of no less than three stretches of golden sand. The main beach is the largest and is fringed with bars and restaurants. It can get quite busy, so it's worth taking a look at the second beach which is similar but smaller. If even that is too busy for you try the small beach towards the harbour. This is smaller and the water is shallower, making it suitable for children and non-swimmers. Getting to it couldn't be easier; the local restaurant owners run a minibus service which will pick you up and collect you. It has, of course, a good selection of restaurants and cafes.
A beach holiday is not complete without a great selection of watersports, and Altinkum has them all, from diving and snorkeling in the crystal clear waters to windsurfing and waterskiing. If you need an excuse to get into the water again, there is a choice of two waterparks to enjoy; these are Altinkum Aqua Park and Adaland Aqua Park. The first is only 15 minutes away, while the second is an hour's journey. It is regarded as the biggest water park in Europe, and the 20 or more aqua rides are an irresistible attraction for families. Children love it!
What to See in Altinkum

Just to the north of the town is the amazing Temple of Apollo at Didim (formerly Didyma) which is a huge and impressive Roman site, where you can wander through the temple ruins and marvel at the huge columns. There is so much to see, but highlights are the Temple of Artemis, the Library of Celsus and the Stadium. Adults and children alike will be fascinated by the perfectly preserved public toilets, which were communal.
